now begins the study of yoga
Hi! I'm Susan. Thank you so much for visiting my site. It is my honor to share this practice, and I look forward to connecting with you! My intention is to always meet the student where they are, and as such always remain the student myself.
My yoga journey began 10 years ago with sun salutation A, much as Sūrya Namaskāra, commences the Aṣṭāṅga yoga sequence. I practiced it over and over again simply because it was easy enough for a beginner to remember, taking the lesson home with me for practice when there wasn't class. I look back, and I see that being in the vinyasa count gave me structure. In order to practice on my own, I needed that to find focus. Doing it on my own was important to me because I knew I had a chance to go inward and face myself. I felt that if I didn't rely too heavily on instruction, I might actually make this new thing stick, and let it help me feel grounded. I focused on very few poses to try to be in the moment, and it was a relief to not be faced with the constant decision of what to do next. Without knowing it, I started a strong practice of awareness beyond the physical body that has helped me in my life immeasurably. Through movement, breath and meditation, I began to know my true self.
I met my first teacher while I was an English teacher in Thailand in 2013. P Noi introduced me to asana, pranayama, and yoga philosophy. She inspired me to seek a 200 hour teaching certificate which I did in 2017 in Rishikesh, India at Nada Yoga School. I began practicing Aṣṭāṅga five years ago with Jade Skinner in St. Petersburg, Fl, and when I moved to New York, with Amy Santos in Brooklyn. Most recently, I've worked with Jessica Lynne Trese in Tampa to receive my 500 hour specializing in Aṣṭāṅga Yoga. I've learned yoga can be experienced so many ways and is much more than a physical practice, but for some it could be the physical body that opens the door to the inner realm.
